Costumes
To the Balinese, the structure of the body duplicates that of the cosmos. The lower part of the body, from the navel down, must always be covered. As for the head, it is where is located "Siwais door" (Siwadwara or fountanel) and the headdress should emphasize this sacred function. A sarong for the lower body -called endek or songket for the woven ones- and a udeng or songket decorated Leaddress (gelungan) For the head are usually sufficient. To cover the breast is of lesser importance, although modern Balinese men were a shirt and women a long-sleeve kebaya. Women wrap the sarong from right in such a way as to have two folds at its extremity, while men do it from left to right and make many folds, w. they lift midbrains, before letting the extremity hang loo in the front; on top of this they wrap a small saput.
Most traditional costumes are derived from these b Balinese costumes. The woven sarong or ikat cloth used make them can be found at the beach markets or, better, the Sukawati Art Market.
