A major part of any holiday is sampling the local cuisine. Although most of the restaurants in the major tourist areas serve international fare, authentic Balinese cuisine is usually found on the menus and is definitely worth sampling. One of the first Balinese restaurants to offer tradisitional Balinese dishes to a growing following,Bumbu Bali is owned and run by Heinz von  Hozen (formerly of Hyatt and Ritz Carlton fame) and his Balinese wife, Puji. Sample authentic Balinese food in a setting reminiscent of a Balinese home.
Another restaurants know for its authentic Indonesian food is La Indonesian in Jimbaran. La Indonesia has taken specialities from all over the archipelago as well as the traditional Indonesian Rijsttafelan array of different courses, some spicy, some sweet, serve with rice, and condiments.
Ketupat also serves delicious Indonesian dishes in a comfortable setting at very reasonable  prices in Kuta (located behind Jonathan Silver) while in Ubud, Batan Waru and Bebek Bengil have refined traditional Indonesian cuisine in a settings and style that have proved very popular. Batan Waru also offers excellent breakfasts and desserts whilst Bebek Bengil's house special­ity is crispy duck served with traditional Balinese herbs and spices and a chioce of sinful desserts!

Nusa Dua
Nusa Dua is a secluded enclave of 5 star priced hotels and the Galleria shopping centre. The Galleria has recent­ly gone through a facelift and features many choices for dining out. On the Rocks - a hot stone cooking restaurant lets you cook your own meal to your liking on hot lava stones, Pica Pica features a Brazilian style BBQ and Ole Ole serves authentic Spanish food; don't forget to try their sangria. There's also the Matsuri Japanese restaurant and Ema serving Chinese and Thai food.
The hotels in Nusa Dua offer fine cuisine at 5 star and often feature cultural activities such as Balinese dancing with dinner with a variety of different restaurants to tempt your tastebuds.
The Bali Cliff and Nikko Hotel feature brunches on Sundays and Cave night (Wednesdays and Saturdays) at Bali Cliff, offers an excellent buffet and a Kecak dance by firelight on the beach that is not to be missed. There are also a few restaurants on Jl. Pantai Mengiat (just down the road from the Hilton) Poco Loco - serving Mexican food and top cocktails and Ulam's two restaurants across the road from each other serving fresh seafood.

Jimbaran
The fishing village of Jimbaran has become famous for it's fresh grilled seafood. What started as a few small warungs on the beach has multiplied into many different restaurants where you can choose from a variety of fish, lobster, squid and prawns. Watch the sunset and shortly after your meal is served complete with vegetables, potato and salad. Becoming very popular it's recommended to go early to beat the crowds and the smoke from the grills.
Further along the beach is the Four Seasons Hotel. For casual dining by the beach try PJ.'s, or noodles at Warung Mie and upmarket fine dining at Wantilan. Denise French's desserts are particularly wicked at the Four Seasons. Travelling up the road, the Ritz Carlton has some spectacular views over the bay which can be enjoyed from Cumi-Cumi - Mediterranean style eating or Padi servi contemporary Balinese food.

Tuban
Tuban features a growing number of different eateries.; O'Briens at the Holiday Inn serve great steaks and Lotus Tavern, part of the Lotus chain give excellent value for' money with their mix of tasty Italian and Indonesian dishes. Wandering along Jl. Kartika Plaza, Kuta Seafood Market has been joined by the Singapore Seafood restaurant in offering fresh seafood choices.
Khin Khao serves Thai food or Thai BBQ at the table. Chinese food awaits at the Mandarin or the Golden Lotus in the Bali Dynasty Hotel which serves Dim Sum for lunch everyday or, whilst shopping, drop into the excellent chinese restaurant in Plaza Bali. For good Indonesian food try Melati restaurant in Kartika Plaza Hotel. Fast food lovers have a variety of choices at Kuta Centre and Kuta Square where they can choose from MacDonalds, Californian Fried Chicken, Dunkin' Donuts, Kentuc Fried Chicken, Wendy's and Pizza Hut.
Also in Kuta Centre for Mexican try Chi Chi's or Amigo's and the All Stars Surf Cafe is a casual eatery with surfing paraphernalia.

Kuta
Poppies Lane is worth a stroll down for fine food. Poppies and Un's are popular with international menus and peaceful surroundings. T J.'s serves Mexican cuisine and don't forget to pop in to Fat Yogi's for a pizza.
Made's Warung, close by is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Around the corner on the beach, the newly opened Hard Rock Cafe is one of the more popular night spots serving American style food in a great atmosphere created by their excellent live bands. If you want an Australian style burger, Yani's is the place to go. Vegetarians don't miss out at Aroma's - delicious desserts and a wide variety of interesting vegetarian dishes. The Kopi Pot serve great salads and Warung Kopi's speciality is Indian curries with an Indian buffet on Wednesdays, great cakes too. The Macaroni Club serving contemporary Italian is gathering a dedicated following.
Tenkai at the Bali Padma is one of the best value for money restaurants on the island, complete with Teppanyaki and shabu-shabu. Ryoshi also serve great sushi in a cozy atmosphere in their four restaurants in Seminyak, Legian, Sanur and Ubud and try Goa for sushi, seafood, Thai and Indonesian dishes. Poco Loco - the original, is a popular choice with good atmosphere and consistent qual­ity of Mexican food.
